Building a Green Hive Hub!

Green Hive have commissioned a consortium of local specialists to undertake an “Options and Feasibility Study” which will help identify future activities and a main base for the organisation and to generate a commercial income.A really important aim of Green Hive is to engage the local community in our projects, the consortium will be reviewing opportunities for Green Hive to retain this community engagement, grow income and assess the best premises to help support this activity. To collect views on these opportunities, we are holding a community engagement event in the Nairn Community and Arts Centre from 10am to 2pm on Saturday…

Nairnshire Events

We set up our stall at the County Show in July and on Games Day. The weather was changeable, but good days had all the same. Lots of chats and we were delighted to greet many more younger people and families. This year we didn’t run a raffle but we did do a pebble painting competition which, given the tent blew away at the Show, attracted lots of joyful entries (we got the tent back up with much appreciated help from our neighbours). We were battened down more at the Games and were glad to offer people shelter during the…

Our first AGM

We held our first AGM on Thursday 6th October, marking 10 months since the organisation was formed. We now have 17 members and a number of other followers. Our Board of Directors was elected, now 4 in number and they will meet for the first time on 10th November. We’ll post more about the Directors after that. Our labours over the last months are beginning to bear fruit. On Wednesday last week Andy and Simon Randerson completed the erection of composting bays at Viewfield Park. We start gathering leaves there and from neighbouring residents from 8th November. We began a…

We mean it. We want your views.

At this year’s County Agricultural show we put up our stand for the first time. We set out to get local people’s views on projects which could contribute to and benefit Nairn and its environment. It was a great day. The weather was kind (well, dryish), the stand looked great, the raffle was a success, and our clothes line for ideas filled up quickly….we’ve got loads of suggestions for projects that could get going pretty soon….and even better, lots of really good ideas for collaborations between us and other groups in the town. We have got longer term plans for quite expensive,…

Onwards and upwards

It’s been great to hear from so many people in support of our plan. There’s now 15 of you signed up as founder members of the Social Enterprise and we’ll be meeting next Tuesday to kick off a two or three week flurry of activity to get the Company limited by Guarantee and its bank account set up. We’re also going to be considering three options for premises and deciding on working groups to get some projects going.

Our Inaugural Meeting

What a splendid turnout last night! 20 people from all parts of Nairn like Moss-side, Queenspark, Mill Road, Lochloy and Fishertown, came to find out more and see what they might do to support and work with NRE. 12 of those attending signed up immediately to join our Enterprise and we have others who have pledged interest but were unable to come on the night. We’ll be getting suitable advice straight away on the mechanics of setting up our company limited by guarantee. Those attending expressed lots of interest in pooling their efforts to set up an up cycling project, support the…
