Bumblebags Sewing Group Saturday 9th March Saturday 6th April Green Hive Hub, Links Studios, Grant Street, Fishertown at 11am Take part in our sewing group at the Green Hive hub, upcycle unwanted fabric to create reusable bags to be donated to local shops to reduce the number of plastic bags used in Nairn. Apple Tree Grafting and Pruning Workshops

The next generation of apple trees and apple tree growers have been nurtured over the last couple of weeks with our apple tree grafting and pruning workshops taking place. Nairn Academy pupils, staff and the farmer Jones Academy visited the Sandown Allotments and learned from experienced growers Jules, Des and Robert about permaculture and apple tree grafting. They will now take their trees, and knowledge back to start their own orchard at Nairn Academy! A Hive of Scribes – Fundraiser

On Friday, 29th March forget about Brexit and come along to the Little Theatre where at 7.30 pm The Pen & I, Nairn’s creative writing group will be presenting ‘A Hive of Scribes’, an evening of readings of poetry and prose. There may be a little music too. There will be a raffle and refreshments. The cost will be £8 payable at the door and all proceeds will be donated to Green Hive, Nairn’s environmental charity.

Apple Tree Grafting and Pruning Workshop

Learn how to graft apple trees and some simple techniques to care for your fruit trees, and take home a young grafted tree of your own. Led by members of the Nairn Allotments’ Orchard Group and a Royal Horticultural Society trained gardener. Places are free but limited so must be reserved in advance, existing Green Hive volunteers will have priority. Contact us at [email protected] or 07453912697.  

Bumblebags

200 bags and counting!

Think Green. Think saving the environment. Think Hive. Think of busy bees. Put them together and you get Green Hive. Put a group of busy bees together on a Saturday morning at the Green Hive hub at the Links Studios on Grant Street and soon you will have a Bumblebag.  A small group of volunteers meet once a month to sew Bumblebags which are environmentally friendly in addition to being attractive and each one unique. The fruits of the labours can be seen in the window of Clarks of Nairn furniture shop or on display in Nairn Library several times…

Queens Park Project

Help design our Queens Park community project

Green Hive are building a new project and we need your help. If you live in Queens Park tell us what you think by completing a survey available from the Green Hive Hub, Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau, or online here. So far we have done litter picks, handy neighbour household DIY and a pop-up up-cycling stall. What would you like to see Green Hive do next in Queens Park? How would you improve your environment? Get involved with planning a volunteer activity or public event right on your doorstep!

A new year, a new hobby

Bumblebags! Our first sewing group meet up will be Saturday 12th January at 11am. If you want to learn to sew or practise your existing skills come and join our other sewers and make some lovely Bumblebags out of old and unwanted fabrics. Meet at the Green Hive Hub, Old Links School, Grant Street, Fishertown from 11 am.

Christmas Get Together

Join us at the Green Hive Hub at the Old Links School this Friday 21st Dec 6-8pm. There will be mince pies, drinks and snacks, but feel free to bring a drink or a dish along too. Green Hive awarded Big Lottery Funding

We have been successful in attracting a substantial two year grant from the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) to start in January 2019. This grant will enable Green Hive to expand the volunteer projects and activities it runs and through piloting social enterprise introduce regular volunteering and work experience opportunities in Nairn. Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said: “I am delighted that Nairn River Enterprise’s Green Hive project has been successful in securing a Big Lottery Fund grant. The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish Green Hive every success as it goes on to…
